Tidal Beacon: A Sculpture Transformed by Light

At the edge of Halifax’s waterfront, Tidal Beacon transforms light, motion, and sculpture into an immersive experience. Designed by internationally recognized artist and sculptor Ned Kahn, the installation captures the movement of the city’s tides, weather, and surrounding environment through a dynamic interplay of form and illumination.

To bring the sculpture to life, GLLS integrated Vivid Wave Silicone LED Strip Lighting to create “Lunar Crest,” an eight-minute crescendo of shimmering light followed by a two-minute “Beacon Turn” that transforms the sculpture into a rotating beacon of illumination.

 By combining flexible LED technology with creative control, Tidal Beacon becomes more than a landmark. It becomes a living installation that evolves with its surroundings, creating a unique experience for every viewer.
